Faithful Gratitude

Give thanks in every situation because this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. –1 Thessalonians 5:18

This era of coronavirus is quite the situation. Arguably not since World War II have we as a nation faced such unprecedented circumstances. Yet, despite furloughing and unemployment, sickness and loss of life, sheltering in place and being physically distanced from one another—strangers, friends, and family alike—we are instructed as people of faith to give thanks in all situations, including this one.

I’ve seen several blogs and social media posts posing questions like, “What is the first thing you’re going to do when this is all over?” or, “Where’s the first place you will go when sheltering in place is lifted?” An imaginative friend of mine got more specific, asking, “If you could go anywhere in the world for a  three-day vacation, what would be your destination, and at what restaurant would you dine on the first night of the getaway?” That one stoked a lot of wanderlust.
